WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is an invigorating form of exercise for complete wellbeing, including recovery from injury, spine or joint issues. As an exercise system not only is it a proven way to strengthen the core muscles but it also focuses on utilising the entire body to improve overall strength and tone, flexibility and mobility, bone strength and even posture. Whilst many of the movements might be small and performed slowly, they are done to target specific muscle groups, many of which you may never work in your usual fitness routine.

With regular practice, and coupled with focused breathing patterns, Pilates has proven itself invaluable not only as a form of fitness but also as an important form of exercise for sports professionals and in aiding physical rehabilitation of all kinds. Osteopaths, GPs and physiotherapists often recommend Pilates as one of the safest forms of exercise for men and women of all ages.

PILATES MATWORK COURSES

My Matwork classes contain no more than 8 people in a Beginners class and 10 in an Intermediate/Advanced class. This allows me to ensure that everyone is performing the exercises correctly and safely and to modify the movements for individuals when necessary. Matwork classes are designed to improve the body’s core strength, endurance and control. Mainly done lying down or in a seated position you will re-educate your body and increase your mobility, body awareness and alignment in the most natural way possible. The sessions can range from a gentle but highly effective workout to a more intense and challenging programme. All sessions can be adapted up or down depending on needs and how your body responds.

Courses generally run for 6 – 7 weeks.

PILATES REFORMER CLASSES

The Reformer is an elegant machine designed by Joseph Pilates. With its sophisticated system of springs, straps and pulleys the exercises provide finely tuned resistance that allows one to work very precisely to develop good alignment, core strength and flexibility. It was designed to deliver a focused and powerful exercise session for individuals who want to learn how to improve their body’s mobility, want to gain strength and full range of movement whilst sculpting and strengthening muscles. A Reformer class contains a maximum of 6 people to ensure correct and safe execution of the exercises.
