I started my career as an I.D.T.A Dance Teacher running my own dancing school for ten years teaching ballet, tap, modern and gymnastic dance to children and adults. It was during this time that my passion for fitness started and I became an RSA Exercise to Music Teacher and a Step Aerobics Teacher.
After having my daughter, I returned to dance teaching but discovered that I had acquired lower back and hip problems. After visiting a specialist and having had my pelvis “re-aligned” and injections into the hip I found that whilst dancing my body was out of balance with one side being considerably weaker and unstable than the other. I enrolled on a local Pilates Mat class and instantly became hooked. I quickly realised that the Pilates method of focusing on postural symmetry, breath control and strengthening the core in a way that was gentle and non-impactful on the joints, enabled me to rehabilitate my own injury and eliminate the pain.
In 2003 I qualified as a Mat Pilates Teacher with the Pilates Institute but I soon realised as clients came to me with joint and back issues, a far greater understanding of anatomy, physiology and human movement was required. I chose to continue my Pilates education with Stott Pilates, renowned worldwide for its contemporary approach to the original Pilates method, based on modern principles of exercise science and rehabilitation. I not only retrained as a matwork instructor but also trained to teach Reformer Pilates, Stability Chair, Cadillac and the barrels to become a Fully Certified Stott Pilates Instructor.
Teaching Pilates is fun and rewarding and I love seeing my client’s body’s change enabling them to go about their normal activities more easily and pain free.
